No Longer a Stranger and a SojournerIn the middle of a Christian country, I was born into a Buddhist family in St. Louis, MO. Growing up, I had many Christian friends. I heard some things about a man named Jesus and believed that there was some sort of Supreme Being, but I figured that I could have my own relationship with Him in whatever way I wanted. Little did I know that I was actually as far away from God as I could be, a stranger to God and His promises, having no hope and without God in the world (Ephesians 2:12). Behind the scenes, though, God was moving. My mother was invited to a dinner and a meeting with some Christians in the local church. She enjoyed the time with them so much that she invited me to come to the meeting the next day. During that meeting, in a small group of three or four people, they shared with me about the Lord Jesus. Seeing the shining faces of the brothers and sisters and hearing about the Lord, I wanted what they had. I decided to receive Jesus as my Lord, life, and Savior and that day gave myself to Him and got baptized. From that day on, I was helped day by day, month by month, and eventually year by year to know the God I had received and what is on His heart as revealed in His Word. Now, more than ten years later, having met with a number of local churches as I have moved around, I am so thankful that the Lord brought me to the local church. I feel that today, more than ever before, I know God as the eternal life and know what He desires, and am closer to Him than I ever could have been trying to find Him by myself. I have found that He dwells with His own and truly feel that I am no longer apart from Christ (Ephesians 2:12) and no longer a stranger and a sojourner, but a fellow citizen with the saints and a member of the household of God (Ephesians 2:19).
